As an elementary school teacher, I enjoyed reading books out loud, especially those that left my students begging to hear just one more chapter. When I retired from teaching I decided to write my own chapter book.  A Bomber's Night began as a tribute to my parents, who experienced prejudice as refugees in World War II England. Weaving the German Enigma Codes into the story added just the right amount of history and tension to create a page turner.

               Chapter 1
        Cambridge, England
                  1941

The moment she saw it, she knew. Jill’s feet sank deeper into the soft dirt as she stared up at the sky. The dark shape drifting high above the trees was a Nazi bomber. Moonlight glinted off the fuselage and Jill saw something fall out of the plane.
Without stopping to water the rest of the vegetables, she grabbed her bucket and ran back to the house. Water spilled against her legs and dribbled into her shoes but Jill hardly noticed. As she reached for the back door knob she remembered her little sister down in the shed feeding Tuppence. She dropped the bucket and ran back through the yard.
